Aleksandra Tomaszewska is a researcher at the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She conducts research in corpus linguistics and NLP applications, and co-develops linguistic resources and tools. Within the scientific consortium PLLuM [Polish Large Language Model], she coordinates the creation of Polish-language datasets for training AI models, overseeing data collection, acquisition, and verification. She serves as the Vice-Chair of the AI Ethics Committee and represents IPI PAN in the project’s Communication Committee. An advocate for creating open resources and establishing standards that respect licenses and copyrights, she promotes the ethical development of LLMs. She graduated with distinction in Applied Linguistics from the Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warsaw. From 2017 to 2023, she taught courses on corpus research and specialized translation at the university. Aleksandra has gained experience through projects such as CLARIN, DARIAH, initiatives funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, and COST actions (NexusLinguarum, ENEOLI). For years, she has been working with data – from designing datasets and data acquisition, through annotation, to analysis and dissemination of results. As part of the Linguistic Engineering Group at IPI PAN, she co-created resources like the multilingual Korpusomat, the Corpus of Contemporary Polish, and the Polish Discourse Corpus. Her research projects focus on lexical innovations, gender-sensitive language in institutional discourse and LLMs, as well as discourse relations. She is a recipient of the CLARIN consortium award for her analysis of parliamentary discourse, author of scientific publications, a frequent speaker at conferences and workshops, and active in science communication.
